#ConGuide: What to Bring When You’re Not In A Hotel

There’s a lot of info out there on what to bring to sleepaway conventions. But not every con you attend is going to be far from home.

There are going to be times that you don’t have the luxury of running back to your hotel room if you need something. It makes being prepared all that more important. In this #ConGuide, we’ll tell you what you can’t leave home without!

Please… Stay Organized

This is pretty obvious but one of the most crucial things to remember is to stay as organized as possible. We can’t even begin to talk about what you need to bring if you’re just gonna chuck everything into your bag and call it a day. Whatever bag you’re bringing should be big enough to hold all your stuff. Struggling to fit everything in a smaller bad usually isn’t worth it. If anything, bring a foldable tote bag in case there are any extras you might pick up during your con day. Separating things into small pouches or makeup bags is good way to declutter your bag. It’ll cut back on loose items and you’ll have quick access to whatever you need.

The Basics

What you do will influence what you bring. If you’re solely a photographer, your bag might be different things than a cosplayer, for example. However, these are the things that you’ll need to have regardless of how you spend your con day.

  • Con tickets. That would suck to leave behind.
  • Money/Wallet
  • Phone, plug, and a portable charger.
  • Keys
  • Taking photos? Make sure you have your camera, a charger, and your SD card
  • Small snack
  • Water

You Never Know

In case of any emergencies or cosplay mishaps, it’s helpful to have these following products on hand. You might be able to get away with not bringing some of these things if your con has a cosplay repair center but it never hurts to have them. If it’s not you in trouble, it could be a friend!

  • Medication/painkillers
  • Band-aids
  • Napkin
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Bobby pins
  • Safety pins
  • Sanitary products
  • Wig cap
  • Perfume
  • Small sewing kit
  • Fabric glue
  • Double-sided tape

Needing touchups during the day is normal. Cons can be a lot of spitting wig hair out of your mouth and accidentally rubbing off your lipstick. These are some products that can keep you looking fresh all day.

  • Eyelash glue.
  • Setting spray. You can pour some into a travel-sized bottle to make life easier.
  • Setting powder
  • Powder foundation. It can be helpful with patching up any makeup that’s shifted throughout the day.
  • Eyeliner
  • Lipstick/lip balm
  • Makeup sponge/brush
  • Makeup wipes

Yup, that’s it!

This might seem like a lot but trust me, having all of these things make life so much easier. Plus if you use the pouch tip, it condenses everything and takes up less space. I always have a majority of these things in my ita bag and I’ve had no problems. Of course, you might wanna add or take away items based on what you’re planning to do at a con. If you’re wearing uncomfortable shoes, you might wanna bring flats to change into (remember, you can always drop things off at coat check if you don’t wanna lug around extra clothes, etc). If you’re not cosplaying at all, you can get rid of the sewing products. This list is just meant to help you consider the things you may need!
