Happy Friday Quirk fam!
As the holidays ramp up, ’tis the season for some good old fashioned movie binges. And if you’re on the lookout for some cool new indie projects to dive into, AYA is definitely one to add to your watch list. The short film, produced by a woman-dominant crew, takes a breathtaking dive into the world of sports, and how anxiety warps a promising athlete’s life into one of dark twists, turns, and drama.
AYA is a psychological thriller about a young woman using the sport of soccer to cope with severe anxiety. Her career takes a turn when the soccer federation promotes her more attractive, marketable teammates over her. Propelled by her increasingly manic jealousy, Aya begins to obsess over her teammates’ personal lives, and sets off on a series of sabotages that harm those around her and—above all—herself.
