Now that you've finished "Bird Box," which movie should you watch next?
You should watch "Hush" (2016)
Check out this clever take on a classic slasher film where the character's unique circumstances- her hearing loss coupled with her strong deductive reasoning skills- create a thrilling and suspenseful narrative. Although the antagonist is decidedly human, the strong female lead with limited resources make this an excellent thematic match to "Bird Box." "Hush" also has a 92% Fresh rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes, so it comes highly recommended. Enjoy the movie!
You should watch "The Babadook" (2014)
Check out this Australian psychological horror film that follows a single mother's struggle with parenting and her own internal demons. Much like "Bird Box," most of the film's scares come from the unseen and the uncertain. At an 96/100 on Metacritic, "The Babadook" has a rating that generally translates to "universal acclaim." Enjoy the movie!
You should watch "A Quiet Place" (2018)
Okay, okay- so this one seems obvious, but hear us out. The parallels between "A Quiet Place" and "Bird Box" are easy to see: post-apocalyptic survival stories centered around children in a world where your very senses may betray you at every step. But did you know that "Bird Box" was originally a novel- released a full four years before "A Quiet Place" in 2018? This film is worth a re-visit, if only to see the application in the hands of director John Krasinski and award-winning actress Emily Blunt. Enjoy your movie!
You should watch "It Comes at Night" (2017)
Check out this low budget indie horror film set in the isolated woods after a world-changing event. The paranoia and suspense of this tale of two families banding together to try and survive the end of the world parallels the strained tension inside the "Bird Box" safehouse- except that since this film plays out chronologically, there's no way to know who will make it until the very end. An indie success for studio A24, it garnered almost four times its budget at the box office and features a diverse cast. Enjoy your movie!
You should watch "Gravity" (2013)
Check out this sci-fi thriller to see more of Sandra Bullock's fine acting work as she struggles to find her way home from the isolation of space. Bullock's tenacity and charm will have you rooting for her survival against all odds once more. This film by director Alfonso Cuarón took seven Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography. Enjoy your movie!
