We’re Finally Getting The First Ever Live-Action Pokemon Film

Who doesn’t love Ryan Reynolds? Who doesn’t love Pikachu?

Earlier today, Warner Brothers released the trailer for Detective Pikachuthe first ever live-action Pokémon film that has sent the fandom spiraling.

In the new film we’ll follow Tim Goodman, played by Justice Smith (Paper Towns, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as he links up with a Pikachu only he can understand, voiced by the cunning and clever Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Just Friends). Pikachu seeks to become a detective in this new tale.

Detective Pikachu will only be the second film that Nintendo has allowed one of their franchises to be licensed to Hollywood for a live-action feature. The first film was Super Mario Bros. in 1993, starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as the iconic brothers. Based on the trailer, we aren’t too worried that this film will have the same fate as the Italian plumbing brothers, but fingers crossed.

What are we excited for? Well for starters, our main character is a POC! Justice Smith is our star and the cast gets better from there. The representation is in full force with legendary actor, Ken Watanabe (Batman Begins, Inception), playing Detective Yoshida. Actors Rita Ora (Fifty Shades Trilogy) and Karan Soni (Deadpool) are also slated to make appearances.

Overall, the trailer didn’t seem to disappoint any long-standing fans and here at Quirktastic we’re excited to see our beloved pocket-size monsters come to life!

Detective Pikachu is expected to premiere May 10, 2019! What are you looking forward to most in the new film?
